Motorola MTL831B is an analog multiplexing transmitter that can transmit multiple hazardous area input signals to a safe area, thereby reducing the cost of laying hazardous area cables. It is intrinsically safe and can be installed in Zone 0, as well as in hazardous situations such as Class I and Division 1.
A multiplexer, commonly referred to as “MUX” or “MPX”, refers to selecting an output signal from multiple input signals. A digital multiplexer is a combined logic circuit that selects binary information from one of many input lines and directs it to a single output line. [0]
The MTL831B can monitor up to 16 thermocouples or millivolt sources (up to plus or minus 60mV) or 15 2, 3, and 4 wire thermistors in hazardous situations. [4]
MTL831B can transmit hazardous area input signals to safe areas by sending and receiving input and output signals from single or dual redundant pairs. It uses a data highway consisting of a twisted pair cable. [1]
An ideal data acquisition system typically uses a single analog-to-digital converter for each measurement channel. In this way, all data is collected in parallel, and all events are compared in a real-time state. [3]
Although MTL831B can transmit multiple hazardous area input signals to safe areas, it can only process analog signals, not digital signals. If you need to process digital signals, you can consider using a digital multiplexer. Digital multiplexers can combine multiple digital signals into one signal without affecting signal quality
