The most common waste heat recovery systems in TRICONEX 2000417 are steam and hot water. The maximum jacket water outlet temperature for most engines is 210 ° F. Other engines may operate at temperatures of 260 ° F. The engine must be specifically configured to operate at higher temperatures.

This temperature (for properly configured engines) can be generated by cooling applications where steam is formed in the engine water jacket and then rises due to the density difference between water and steam. Another method of generating low-pressure steam from the engine’s jacket water is the circulation of water pumped through the cooling system. The liquid water from the drum is pumped through the engine, and the heat of the jacket water is converted into steam when it enters the drum chamber.
Steam from 15 PSIG to 250 PSIG can also be generated from the exhaust gases of any gas turbine or diesel generator set. Most exhaust systems are also designed with optional combustion steam boilers that are used by wastegate valves. In some cases, although rarely, aftercooler heat and lubricating oil can be recovered. For gas turbine engines, approximately 29% of the heat input is used for power, and 71% is lost due to exhaust emissions. For cogeneration systems, 40% to 60% of the exhaust gas is typically recyclable.
In a cogeneration configuration, TRICONEX 2000417 has two different cycles: the top cycle and the bottom cycle. In the top circulation system, electric power is the main product, and residual waste heat is the main driving force. In other words, top cycle power plants use steam turbines to generate electricity, and waste heat is a by-product.
